Spare Me

"Bowls" or lawn bowling is popular in New Zealand, and it's not uncommon to find the sport being played in Rotorua's Government Gardens on Sundays. The game is usually played outdoors on grass or synthetic surfaces.

Becky and I made a brief stop to watch a weekend competition, and we were quickly greeted by one of the players. He left his team to let us feel the heavy, slightly asymmetrical ball while giving us a brief explanation of the game.

  1. When we were showing our NZ photos to Joe and Sue, Paul compared lawn bowling to curling...I still don't quite understand either sport. It does look like one should invest in some white pants if they decide to pick up lawn bowling, though!

  2. I wonder if wearing all white is part of the rules of the game. Everyone looked so proper!
