Fasten Your Life Vests - It's Going to Be a Bumpy Ride

Sarah and Paul took off on their own for a few days to explore the Coromandel Peninsula, so I thought Becky, Tom and I might catch our breath after 6 days of non-stop activity. WRONG! Instead of catching our breath, we took a breath-taking river rafting ride over Tutea Falls - a 7 metre waterfall.

In our infinite wisdom, we donned life vests and helmets and rafted the Kaituna River which boasts the highest commercially rafted waterfall in the world. Besides the Grade 5 waterfall (23 feet), this wild ride included two smaller waterfalls and 14 rapids.

We had an absolute blast, and pictures prove it. These pictures also prove Becky's near-fish experience, at the hands of her father. Tom's been waiting to go fishing; I just never thought he'd practice on his own daughter. Check the photos.

Perhaps in a self-punishing act, Tom gave himself a fat lip, at the hands of his own oar.

  1. Man, oh man. What a wild ride that was! Dad's Maori name may be Tamati, but his Native American name should be Crazy Oars. Well-documented, Mom... your recounting took my breath away, and nothing beats these pictures (though worth a thousand words, I was left speechless)! It's also nice to have some evidence against Dad; you never know when it may come in handy.

  3. I can't believe Dad did that to Becky (and himself!). But, it didn't scare Paul and me away...we went rafting there a few days later! It sure was an adventure! :)
