We left Spokane at 2:00 pm on November 30. Eighteen hours later, we arrived in Auckland, New Zealand - completely losing December 1 in the process. NZ time is tomorrow in the United States, minus 3 hours (for Pacific Time).
We will enjoy the late spring/summer months of the Southern and Eastern Hemispheres! We were immediately impressed with how "green" New Zealand is - Al Gore would be proud. Customs and inspection officials are as concerned about finding dirt on hiking boots and fishing gear as they are with forbidden fresh fruit entering the country. The Kiwis are proud of their pristine waters and aim to protect their lovely environment.
Good work packing! Did your bags make it through check-in without extra fees? Also- all this talk about greenness and fresh fruit makes me wonder if you will be able to have a garden at your Rotorua house. I guess I'll just have to wait for pictures to see if there's a yard!
