This place IS smokin'! Perhaps - more accurately - steaming. All the time and every where you look, you'll observe the geothermal activity for which Rotorua is so well known. Rotoru is Yellowstone on steroids! This morning I went for a run in the park near our lodge - essentially a network of hot ground, attractively fenced off for careful viewing. Interestingly, my iPod played "Light My Fire" during the run - not the Doors version - the Jose Feliciano version (because things are much more lowkey in New Zealand).
