Small World

I learned a few weeks ago that I am not the only Yankee taking a "sabbatical" on the North Island. University of Idaho professor Kenton Bird is taking a REAL sabbatical while researching New Zealand's regional and community newspapers. Dr. Bird is based at the University of Waikato in Hamilton which is about an hour from Rotorua (depending on who's driving).

I had the pleasure of having lunch with Kenton and his artist wife Gerri on the day he met with the editor of our local newspaper The Daily Post. The 3 of us swapped Kiwi adventure stories and compared notes about our mutual friend Carol Wilson. Since dining at Capers, a terrific article about Kenton and his work appeared in The Rotorua Review. No doubt Dr. Bird will want to add this Blog to his list of journalistic studies...

  2. I always think it is fun to run into people in various parts of the world. Last week in Germany I ran into Chris Costley who flew into Ramstein for the night. Crazy!
