Enroute to Queenstown, we happened across the birthplace of an outrageously popular activity in New Zealand - Bungy Jumping. From my point of view, this activity is just plain outrageous! In our infinite widsom - and my fear of a premature death - we opted out of the 15 seconds of fun. Nonetheless, we got a kick out of watching a non-stop parade of thrill-seekers.
Over 500,000 people have dangled over the Kawarua Bridge since AJ Hackett Bungy opened the site in 1988. Brave souls harness up and drop themselves 141 feet over the river at a cost of about $150 (NZ).
Though we were told the center essentially has a perfect safety record, I couldn't help but snap a picture of the door to the toilets.
Didn't take the plunge, eh? Well, it's a reason to go back! Hah!
ReplyDeleteI'm sure bungy jumping would be fun...but, think about all of the other things you can do with $150NZ! For example, pay the shipping fees to send a case of NZ wine back to the US! You can enjoy a dozen bottles for much longer than 15 seconds. :)
