Art in the Park

Rotorua's annual Art in the Park isn't nearly as big as Coeur d'Alene's Art on the Green, but it's every bit as green - and perhaps more charming. We spent the better part of a Sunday afternoon at this event held in the Government Gardens. Artisans ranged from high-end professionals to home-spun crafters, and the bandshell constantly showcased a variety of musicians. We were especially intrigued with the craftsmanship of Tom Kessels. Tom is a long-time woodworker who is highly skilled at turning wood, and we remembered seeing his work at the Kauri Museum during our trip to the Northland. The pictured vase is made from totara wood, and it will be among our favorite keepsakes from New Zealand.
