Our South Island tour ended with a sunny afternoon in English-influenced Christchurch. Known as New Zealand's "Garden City", Christchurch also boasts a beautiful Cathedral Square. The centerpiece is Christchurch Cathedral which took 37 years to build before opening in 1901. The Square was a beehive of activity - with a life-size chess game, street artists, and a countdown to Rugby Cup 2011.
In Christchurch we returned the camper van and caught our return flight to Rotorua. We reflected about our trip and were satisfied to think we had explored and truly appreciated this beautiful spot of the world by land, by air and by sea.
It's settled! The South Island of New Zealand is definitely on my must-do list! :)
ReplyDeleteLooks neat! Someday I shall have to play a giant game of chess. Someday.
