Over the highway and through the woods, we made our way to KeriKeri and to the Georgian Lodge Bed and Breakfast - our base of operation for a couple of days. Hosts Jeff and Linda greeted us warmly and gave us a quick tour of their charming home and gardens before recommending The Pear Tree for our first dinner in KeriKeri. Dinner was excellent - decidedly our best restaurant dinner since arriving in New Zealand. We also decided we needed to purchase a couple bottles of the locally produced wine we enjoyed with dinner - Omata Estate 2004 Reserve Syrah.
Although KeriKeri is the Kiwi Capital of the World, I'm disappointed to report that we saw no Kiwi birds during our 2-day stay. However, we have yet to meet a Kiwi who has seen a Kiwi in the wild, so we're in good company.
Looks like a nice, romantic getaway. The personal service seems top notch! I wonder if you will be sharing one of those bottles of wine with your visitors... ;)
