Taupo boasts yet another record-breaking attraction - Scenic Cellars, home of New Zealand's largest underground wine cellar. With a sales inventory of 3,000 labels and 100,000 bottles, wine enthusiasts can find every varietal and wine-producing region represented. The cellar IS huge, and the opportunity to sample wines is fun and easy. We found this to be the perfect precursor to our trip to the wine region in Hawke's Bay.
Paul may look a little skeptical, but I say it looks terribly fun!!!
ReplyDeleteBeth - Paul was actually preparing to taste a Chateauneuf du Pape and I poured a Margaux! They weren't cheap tastes, as they came from EXPENSIVE bottles. What a treat for us! :) You would have loved this cellar - plus it truly was "scenic" because it overlooked Lake Taupo (plus Mount Ngauruhoe and Mount Ruapehu from Lord of the Rings fame!).
ReplyDeleteShucks, now you've gone and made me jealous!!! Enjoy the rest of your trip!
ReplyDeleteThis was definitely a good stop! In retrospect, I think these samples were the most conservative pours during our wine adventures. I think I'm still detoxing from that weekend!
