Catching up with mail after a weeklong vacation is daunting for me. So when this 6-month, out-of-the-country experience presented itself, I nearly went into a tailspin, particularly because I was still changing our address following our rapid move from Buckskin Road.
For a host of reasons, Tom and I were advised not to forward our mail to New Zealand. However, with bills, property tax notices, holiday cards, and year-end tax statements, holding our mail in the US was clearly not an option. God bless my friend Konni Leichner! Konni tends to our Post Office box and advises me of required action that comes in the mail. She's handled some local transactions on our behalf and has bundled up personal mail - including Christmas cards - and sent them to Tom's Rotorua hospital address. I had some nerve asking the busiest person in Coeur d'Alene to help us out in this big way, so I'll have to figure out a way to profusely thank Konni.
As for Rotorua's mail distribution, mail is delivered on bicycle! We never get mail delivered to our house. Ironically, today (when I chose to feature the postal system) we got mail! My brother Dave's Christmas card arrived - only took 18 days. Fast mail? I'm not buying it.
Hahaha- I love the bike messenger! I just wish my mail would get to you (postmark = Dec. 12). Thank goodness for Konni holding things together in Idaho!
ReplyDeleteIt sure is crazy how unpredictable international mail can be - whether it is to New Zealand or my deployed location!
